Hurricane Screens

Hurricane screens are a relatively new hurricane protection technology which is fantastic for covering odd shaped openings. Hurricane screens are manufactured from various materials such as kevlar, pvc, or woven steel strands. The hurricane screens themselves are designed to absorb an impact during a hurricane similar to the bullet protecting vests police officers wear. Each hurricane screen is custom tailored and manufactured which typically means a more involved quote and measurements. The technical term used for hurricane screens on product engineering is "Wind Abatement Screens."

Hurricane Screens

Typically, hurricane screens are attached using a combination of straps, clips, and screw in anchors. During the initial installation of the hurricane screens the installers will mount the permanent anchors for all of the hardware and also provide sidewalk bolts to be used while the hurricane screens are not in use. There are quite a few hurricane screens on the market with new manufacturers releasing them each year. Some withstand weather and uv-rays better than others so I highly suggest doing your home work.

Benefits of Choosing Hurricane Screens

The major benefit of hurricane screens over the other hurricane protection products is the fact that they are extremely light-weight. You can cover huge expanses and openings while keeping the product quite light. Hurricane screens are also extremely easy to store requiring less space that most products. They usually come with a storage bag from the manufacturer so be sure to ask your contractor.
